Peter Obi’s One-Term Promise Is Rhetoric, Born of Ignorance – Farouq Aliyu

ABUJA — Former Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Farouq Aliyu, has dismissed Peter Obi’s promise to serve only a single term if elected president in 2027, describing it as “empty rhetoric” and a product of ignorance.

Speaking on Prime Time, a programme on Arise Television aired Wednesday, the All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain criticised the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, insisting Obi lacks the national governance experience required to make such a commitment.

“Sometimes when you’re out of office or when you’re not in the place, you don’t know the realities,” Aliyu said. “To me, it’s just rhetoric, and he’s also trying to convince people.”

He argued that Obi’s experience as a two-term governor of Anambra State does not translate to an understanding of the complexities of running a diverse and challenging country like Nigeria.

“Obi is talking out of ignorance. He doesn’t know. States are different from Nigeria,” Aliyu stated bluntly.

Obi’s recent declaration that he would serve only one term if elected president has sparked intense debate across political and civic circles. While some see it as a bold and selfless pledge, others — like Aliyu — have dismissed it as a political gimmick aimed at swaying voters ahead of the 2027 general election.
