Minna, Niger State— Former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, undertook a series of engagements yesterday, visiting prominent leaders to discuss pressing national issues and reaffirm his commitment to fostering unity and nation-building in Nigeria.
Obi first visited the Niger State capital, Minna, where he met with former Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB), at his residence. In a tweet shared on his official X account, Obi described IBB as a “father figure, elder statesman, and leader.” The visit provided an opportunity to wish the former president a happy New Year and seek his perspectives on critical national matters.
“General Babangida’s wisdom and perspectives remain very important. I always deeply appreciate the chance to visit him and listen to his invaluable advice and words of wisdom,” Obi noted.
The former governor, who has consistently championed the vision of a new Nigeria, reiterated his optimism, declaring, “A new Nigeria is possible!”
Obi also visited former Niger State Governor, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, to express his condolences over the recent passing of Aliyu’s mother and younger sister. During the visit, Obi extended his heartfelt sympathies and emphasised the importance of solidarity during challenging times.
“Our discussion focused on the critical task of nation-building and the shared responsibility we all hold in shaping a brighter future for our country,” he said of their exchange.
To conclude his engagements, Obi met with former President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja. Expressing admiration for Jonathan’s approach to national issues, Obi commended the former leader’s patriotic stance and described the meeting as insightful.
“Ex-President Jonathan’s patriotic approach to national issues remains admirable. I appreciate his kind advice and guidance, and I wish him and his family a happy and productive year ahead,” Obi remarked.
Through these strategic visits, Obi continues to demonstrate his commitment to addressing Nigeria’s challenges and fostering unity across the country.
