Peter Obi Denies Defection to PDP, Reaffirms Commitment to ADC-Led Coalition

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has firmly denied claims that he is set to defect to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing the report as false and misleading.

In a statement released on Tuesday by Ibrahim Umar of the Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR), Obi reaffirmed his commitment to the ongoing coalition efforts led by the African Democratic Congress (ADC), stating that he remains fully aligned with the movement’s objectives.

“Peter Obi has been unequivocal in his position in the ongoing coalition and didn’t need anyone to put words into his mouth,” the statement read.

The former Anambra State governor condemned the circulation of statements falsely attributed to him, warning that such actions were intended to push a “devious agenda.”

“He has remained focused on his mission but would not accept anybody attributing a statement to him just to satisfy their agenda,” Umar added.

The media office further urged members of the public and the press to rely solely on verified information from Obi’s official communication channels.

“All statements regarding Mr. Obi’s political moves or affiliations will be made only through his official media office or verified social media handles,” it said.

Peter Obi, who emerged as a leading figure in the 2023 general elections under the Labour Party, has recently been involved in talks aimed at building a united front among opposition parties ahead of the 2027 elections. Despite speculation about his political future, Obi has remained publicly committed to the principles of accountability, good governance, and coalition-building outside of the PDP framework.
