Former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate and ex-governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, has categorically denied reports suggesting his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Obi distanced himself from an APC gathering where his name was mentioned, emphasizing that he remains committed to integrity and issue-based politics.
Obi clarified his stance, stating, “I do not engage in toxic politics, blackmail, or any form of political manipulation. My name should not be associated with such narratives.”
Reiterating his political principles, Obi affirmed that he has never been a member of the APC and has no intention of joining the ruling party. He urged political stakeholders to focus on assessing aspirants based on competence, capacity, and compassion, as these qualities are vital to building a better Anambra and a better Nigeria.
The former LP candidate also addressed the political transition of Valentine Ozigbo, stressing that every aspirant should be evaluated fairly, regardless of their political affiliation.
He called on all political parties to ensure free and fair primaries while rejecting toxic politics, asserting that this is the only way to build the democratic nation that Nigeria aspires to become.
Obi concluded his statement by expressing his hope for a new Nigeria driven by justice and integrity, urging stakeholders to remain steadfast in their pursuit of transparent and accountable leadership.
