The embattled Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT), Senator Adolphus Wabara, has revealed ongoing efforts to woo Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, back into the party, citing his remarkable developmental achievements.
Wabara made this known during an event held at the International Conference Centre (ICC) in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, where he lauded Governor Otti’s governance as evidence-based and devoid of political bias.
“Politics ends after campaigns and elections; governance begins afterward. Even a blind man can see what is happening in Abia. Governor, continue to do well. Our ancestors in Abia are with you, and I want to believe that you are in constant touch with them for guidance. Every Abian is happy with you,” Wabara declared.
He commended Otti’s developmental strides and drew comparisons with Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State, who, according to him, has also been a beacon of progress in the South-East.
“I came from Enugu two days ago and saw the massive development by Governor Peter Mbah of the PDP. Even APC members are confessing that you and your colleague, Peter Mbah, are pace-setters,” he added.
Wabara emphasized that his comments were devoid of political undertones but rather a genuine acknowledgment of Otti’s performance. “I have never mentioned your party – the Labour Party. I have always said Governor Alex Otti is doing well. Nobody knows where he will swing in 2027, so when my critics talk, let them know we are all wooing you,” he said.
The statement comes amid internal wrangling within the PDP, following Wabara’s suspension by the Abia State Working Committee (SWC). The party’s National Working Committee (NWC) swiftly nullified the suspension, citing procedural irregularities.
PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, described the suspension as a violation of the party’s constitution, stating, “The purported suspension did not follow due process and, therefore, stands nullified.”
As 2027 draws closer, the political landscape in Abia State appears set for intriguing twists, with the PDP intensifying efforts to reclaim one of its former strongholds.
