PDP Will Lead Nigeria Again — Damagum Declares

Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Damagum, has declared that several members who previously defected to the opposition coalition are now returning to the party, describing the alliance as a “failed political experiment.”

Speaking during the party’s 101st National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held Thursday in Abuja, Damagum reaffirmed the PDP’s strength, resilience, and readiness to reclaim power in the 2027 general elections.

The high-level gathering brought together PDP state chairpersons, governors, federal lawmakers, and other key stakeholders to strategize for the future of the party.

Damagum hailed the PDP as the only political platform with the structure, national appeal, and legacy required to steer Nigeria forward.

“Many who jumped on the coalition bandwagon have already returned to our fold. Some even claim they never left and merely attended a meeting. We accept their confessions without prejudice,” he stated.

According to Damagum, even members of other parties who joined the opposition alliance are now retracing their steps, recognizing the coalition’s shortcomings.

He commended the party’s governors and lawmakers for their loyalty and service, describing the governors as “the backbone of the PDP,” and applauded the legislators for challenging unpopular government policies and upholding democratic standards.

“The Peoples Democratic Party remains the only party not only poised and ready to take back power, but also the only one with the national structure and legacy capable of bearing the weight of this great national undertaking,” he added.

Damagum urged party members to remain united, sincere, and forward-looking as the NEC deliberates on the party’s next course of action.

“As we deliberate on the next steps for our great party, I urge us all to be of one mind, to speak truthfully, and to make wise recommendations without prejudice,” he concluded.
