A prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, has issued a stern warning ahead of the party’s upcoming National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, saying it will address and take decisive action against individuals working against the interest of the party.
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Thursday, George dismissed the notion that Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, holds undue control over the PDP. He emphasized that the party is not like the All Progressives Congress (APC), which he alleged is controlled by a single individual.
“Nyesom Wike does not own the PDP; he joined the party just like everyone else. If you think he’s still a member only because of his money, just wait until the NEC meeting. Decisive actions will be taken against all who have committed what I describe as political ‘hara-kiri,’” George declared.
His comments come amid internal tensions and uncertainty surrounding the PDP’s scheduled 100th NEC meeting, set to take place on Monday, June 30, 2025. There had been reports suggesting a postponement of the meeting and the purported reinstatement of Senator Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary.
However, the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) has firmly denied both claims, asserting that the meeting will proceed as planned and clarifying that Anyanwu’s reinstatement has not been approved.
George maintained that Wike’s influence on the ongoing crisis within the party is overstated and insisted that the NEC would take firm decisions to restore discipline and unity within the PDP.
As the party braces for what appears to be a critical turning point, all eyes are now on the outcome of the forthcoming NEC meeting, expected to reshape the PDP’s internal dynamics.
