PDP Warns APC Against Imposing State of Emergency in Osun

The Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ambassador Umar Illiya Damagun, has cautioned the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) against any attempts to impose a state of emergency in Osun State, calling such moves undemocratic and dangerous.

Speaking during a media chat in Abuja, Damagun urged the APC-led federal government to halt all pressures on the Osun State government, allowing Governor Ademola Adeleke to focus on governance and delivering the dividends of democracy to the people.

“Nigeria is not a banana republic; there is a limit to what the citizens can tolerate,” Damagun warned, as contained in a statement by his personal assistant, Nuru Shehu Jos.

The PDP chairman accused the APC of orchestrating political tensions in Osun as part of a broader plan to destabilize PDP-controlled states. He alleged that an APC leader had previously boasted about plans to take over Osun and Oyo States.

Damagun also condemned the spate of violence in Osun’s local government areas, warning that further provocation could lead to widespread unrest.

He criticized the APC government for focusing on political power grabs instead of addressing Nigeria’s pressing economic challenges. “Today, people can no longer afford to feed, and insecurity has engulfed Nigeria under the APC government,” Damagun lamented.

He called on security agencies to remain neutral and avoid being used as tools for political manipulation. “Security personnel must remember they are paid with taxpayers’ money. They must protect all citizens and refuse to take sides,” he said.

Damagun reassured PDP members and supporters that the party remains united and committed to defending democracy. He encouraged Osun residents to stay loyal to the PDP and continue supporting Governor Adeleke’s development agenda.

“The PDP will not allow anyone to undermine democracy or destabilize our states. We stand firm in protecting the rights of the people and the integrity of our party,” he added.

The PDP chairman emphasized that the party would continue to use lawful means to resist any attempts to suppress opposition voices and vowed to maintain internal unity despite political challenges.
