PDP Urges Tinubu to Intervene in Edo Secretariat Dispute

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the ongoing tussle over its Edo State secretariat, which it claims has been unlawfully occupied by the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The property, located at 59 Airport Road, Benin City, had served as the PDP’s state secretariat since Governor Godwin Obaseki defected from the APC to the PDP in 2020 after being disqualified from seeking re-election under his former party.

However, the APC reportedly took control of the building last Thursday, a move the PDP has described as an assault on democracy.

Speaking with Journalist, PDP National Deputy Youth Leader, Timothy Osadolor, condemned the APC’s actions, accusing the ruling party of disregarding legal and democratic principles.

“This country once upheld the rule of law and established protocols. But now, we’re witnessing abnormalities that should never happen,” Osadolor said. “Since the President himself has shown disregard for the laws of the land, it is unsurprising that his party is following suit.”

He further alleged that the APC’s actions in Edo State undermine democratic values and could provoke widespread discontent if unchecked.

“Even with court judgments restraining them and ordering a return to the status quo, the Edo governor, backed by his allies, has defied these rulings. We have taken the matter to court and reported it to all security agencies. However, the APC remains intent on subverting democracy,” he added.

Osadolor called on President Tinubu to take decisive action, saying, “As commander-in-chief, he must ensure his party respects the rule of law and democratic principles. Our members in Edo State should remain calm and avoid any actions that could escalate the situation. This phase will pass.”

Efforts to obtain comments from APC leaders proved unsuccessful. The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, could not be reached, and National Vice Chairman (South-East), Dr. Ijeoma Arodiogbu, declined to comment, citing a lack of familiarity with the issue.

The PDP has vowed to continue its legal battle to reclaim the disputed property, reiterating its commitment to upholding democracy and the rule of law.
