The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on President Bola Tinubu to take decisive action in investigating and recovering over N25 trillion allegedly misappropriated by leaders and officials of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This appeal was made in a New Year message titled “Address Insecurity, Fuel, Food Crisis,” signed by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba. The statement urged the President to prioritize pressing issues such as insecurity, food shortages, and fuel supply crises to alleviate the suffering of Nigerians.
The PDP congratulated Nigerians on the arrival of 2025 while emphasizing the need for President Tinubu to ensure the new year is not characterized by policies or actions that fail to address the nation’s urgent challenges. The party called for immediate steps to reduce fuel prices, combat widespread hunger, and implement effective security measures.
Critiquing the President’s previous public addresses, the PDP described them as filled with “hopeless rhetoric, unsubstantiated statistics, false promises, and conjured performance claims” that offered no real solutions to pressing concerns such as insecurity, economic revival, job creation, and credible governance.
The PDP further accused the APC-led government of fostering corruption, deceit, budget mismanagement, and reckless spending. It highlighted what it termed a disregard for citizens’ welfare, which it claimed has exacerbated the hardship faced by Nigerians.
The party challenged President Tinubu to account for the reported billions of naira generated from the removal of petroleum subsidies and to provide clarity on how these funds have been utilized. It also called for a probe into alleged large-scale corruption within government agencies, which it claimed have been turned into “Automated Teller Machines” for personal gain by APC leaders.
Moreover, the PDP urged the President to revisit unresolved incidents such as the alleged state-sponsored killings, particularly during the #EndSARS protests in 2020. It decried the government’s perceived failure to address these issues, including the reported denial of atrocities during the tragic event that claimed the lives of numerous Nigerian youths.
Despite these challenges, the PDP encouraged Nigerians to remain hopeful and resilient, expressing belief in the nation’s potential for better days ahead.
