PDP Stakeholders Reaffirm Sam Anyanwu as National Secretary

ABUJA — Eminent stakeholders and concerned leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have reaffirmed Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the duly elected and substantive National Secretary of the party. The declaration came after a high-level closed-door meeting held in Abuja on Monday, aimed at resolving the lingering internal crisis within the party.

The meeting, which brought together key party figures from across the country, sought to address growing concerns over internal democracy, unity, and adherence to the party’s constitution.

Reading the communique on behalf of the stakeholders, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mr. Nyesom Wike, said Anyanwu’s reaffirmation was based on the clear provisions of the PDP Constitution and the definitive judgment of the Supreme Court.

“The crisis rocking our party stems from the refusal of a few individuals to abide by the PDP Constitution,” Wike stated. He cited sections 36(1)(a–c), 47(3)(5), and 48(1)(i) of the constitution, as well as the Supreme Court ruling that affirms Anyanwu’s position.

Wike warned that the PDP was heading toward “self-annihilation” if urgent steps were not taken to curb divisive and self-serving tendencies among its leadership, especially within the National Executive Committee (NEC), National Working Committee (NWC), and the Board of Trustees.

The stakeholders declared that only Sen. Anyanwu, as National Secretary, has the constitutional authority to issue official party notices, including those for NEC meetings, national conventions, and caucus gatherings. Any actions or correspondences issued without his authorization, particularly those directed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), were declared “null, void, and of no effect.”

Further reinforcing their position, the stakeholders insisted that only a properly constituted National Convention could remove Anyanwu from office.

“We demand that the acting National Chairman and the National Secretary jointly issue a notice to INEC, including an agenda for the NEC meeting, as the only lawful and constitutional way forward,” the communique read.

Wike reaffirmed the group’s commitment to party unity and called on all members to uphold the rule of law, resist attempts to destabilize the party, and support the ongoing efforts of the National Reconciliation Committee led by former Senate President Bukola Saraki.

In a significant political move, the stakeholders also resolved that the PDP must zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the South, citing the need for fairness, inclusion, and national balance following eight years of northern leadership under President Muhammadu Buhari.

Present at the meeting were former governors Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Samuel Ortom (Benue), and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), alongside Sen. Anyanwu, former Senate Minority Leader Philip Aduda, and a host of former lawmakers, party executives, and zonal leaders.

The meeting marks a decisive moment in the PDP’s internal struggle, with a renewed call for unity, constitutional order, and preparation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
