The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South-West geopolitical zone has elected new zonal executives to steer the party’s affairs for the next four years.

The zonal congress, held on Wednesday in Ibadan, Oyo State, brought together party delegates and leaders from the six South-West states—Oyo, Osun, Ogun, Ondo, Ekiti, and Lagos. Notable attendees included Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and his Osun State counterpart, Senator Ademola Adeleke.

The election saw the re-emergence of key party figures, with Alhaji Kamorudeen Ajisafe retaining his position as PDP National Vice Chairman (South-West). Other re-elected officials include Obagunwa Muyiwa (Zonal Secretary), Alhaja Bosede Adedibu (Zonal Woman Leader), Adeyemo Adetunji (Zonal Treasurer), Yaya Adeleke (Zonal Financial Secretary), and Atofarati Olusanya (Zonal Publicity Secretary).

In his acceptance speech, Ajisafe pledged loyalty to the party’s constitution and assured members of his commitment to strengthening the party in the region.

Governor Makinde, speaking at the event, applauded the peaceful and transparent nature of the congress, describing it as a model for internal democracy in Nigeria.

“This elective congress is a funfair for us. It shows how democracy should be practised. The South-West PDP is setting the pace,” Makinde said. “INEC is here, security agents are present, and everything is going smoothly. This is democracy at its peak.”

Makinde also expressed optimism that the successful conduct of the zonal congress is a positive indication of what to expect at the party’s upcoming National Convention later this year.

The congress was monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies, all of whom attested to the smooth and orderly proceedings.
