PDP on the Brink of Collapse — Mojeed Dahiru

0

Political and public affairs analyst, Mojeed Dahiru, has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is on the verge of total collapse, insisting the opposition party may not survive beyond 2027.

Dahiru made this assertion during an appearance on Channels Television, where he discussed the state of opposition politics in Nigeria, with a particular focus on the deepening crisis within the PDP.

This comes on the heels of a recent gathering of PDP members in Abuja aimed at resolving internal disputes and reviving the party’s fortunes. However, the meeting ended without any significant progress, further highlighting the party’s internal fractures.

Meanwhile, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, a key player in the ongoing crisis, has vowed to “fight to the finish,” escalating tensions within the party.

According to Dahiru, the PDP’s current woes stem from a strategic blunder ahead of the 2023 general elections.

“The PDP is a dying party,” he said. “The Bible says the wages of sin is death. The party is dying because it committed a mortal sin in 2023. When it jettisoned zoning and failed to cede the presidential ticket to the South — its most consistent support base — it chose instead to field a northern candidate. That decision was fatal.”

Dahiru pointed fingers at former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the PDP’s 2023 presidential candidate, describing his emergence as the beginning of the end for the party.

“Atiku’s candidacy created a wicked problem for the PDP. His ambition effectively broke the party, and since then, it has failed to recover,” he added.

The analyst also commented on Wike’s controversial role, noting that while the FCT Minister may not have intended to be the party’s “undertaker,” his actions are a direct response to the perceived betrayal by the northern bloc of the PDP.

“These actions and inactions — from both Atiku’s camp and Wike’s — are contributing to what seems like the final rites of passage for the PDP,” Dahiru concluded.

As the internal wrangling continues, political observers remain uncertain about the party’s future, with many echoing concerns that Nigeria’s former ruling party is edging closer to political extinction.
