PDP National Secretary Tussle: Anyanwu, Udeh-Okoye Renew Battle for Legitimacy

The ongoing leadership dispute within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has escalated as Senator Samuel Anyanwu and Sunday Udeh-Okoye reignite their battle over the rightful occupant of the National Secretary position.

The latest contention arose after Udeh-Okoye issued a notice postponing the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting from March 15 to May 15, 2025. Anyanwu swiftly countered the announcement, insisting that Udeh-Okoye lacks the authority to act in such a capacity.

In a strongly worded letter addressed to NEC members and other stakeholders, Anyanwu asserted that Udeh-Okoye is neither the party’s National Secretary nor a member of the National Working Committee (NWC) and, therefore, has no legal standing to issue official documents on behalf of the PDP.

“The said Udeh-Okoye is not the National Secretary of our dear party and was never in any NWC meeting where he was mandated to issue such notice,” Anyanwu stated in a memo copied to NEC members, the Board of Trustees, PDP governors, and other key party leaders.

He further emphasized that Udeh-Okoye is under a restraining court order barring him from parading himself as the National Secretary pending an appeal before the Supreme Court. Anyanwu described Udeh-Okoye’s actions as a blatant disregard for the judiciary and a deliberate attempt to destabilize the party.

“It is obvious from his conduct that he is an agent set to destroy the party. He is, therefore, warned to refrain from any further actions that undermine the peace and stability of the PDP,” Anyanwu cautioned.

The disputed notice, which bore Udeh-Okoye’s designation as National Secretary, was circulated through the party’s official Publicity Directorate. However, Anyanwu insisted that no communication from Udeh-Okoye holds legal or official weight, warning party members and the public to disregard his statements.

The PDP’s leadership crisis continues to deepen as the battle for the National Secretary position remains unresolved, raising concerns over internal stability ahead of crucial party activities.
