PDP Mourns Former Chairman and Governorship Aspirant, Prof. Augustine Nwazunku

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State is in mourning following the death of its former chairman and 2023 governorship aspirant, Associate Professor Augustine Nwazunku.

Until his passing, Nwazunku served as a Consultant and Associate Professor of Environmental Health at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State.

His death was confirmed in a statement issued on Thursday by Senator Paulinus Igwe Nwagu, the PDP Deputy Governorship candidate in the 2023 general elections.

“On behalf of our leader, Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii, and the entire Ebonyi PDP, we hereby inform you that we have again lost one of us— a leader, a dependable member, and former Caretaker Chairman of our party in Ebonyi State— Associate Professor Augustine Nwazunku,” the statement read.

In honour of the deceased, the party announced the suspension of all scheduled meetings and activities initially slated for Saturday, June 28, 2025.

PDP members have been directed to converge at Aristocrat Hotel, along Ezza Road, from where they will proceed to pay a condolence visit to the family of the late academic and politician.

As of the time of filing this report, the circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear.
