Bala Mohammed emerges PDP Governors’ Forum Chairman

Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have declared their resolve to stand firm against what they described as intimidation and exclusion tactics allegedly employed by the Federal Government.

Speaking during the 99th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the PDP held on Tuesday in Abuja, the governors reaffirmed their commitment to good governance and the unity of the party amid mounting political pressure.

Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum and Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed, addressed the gathering, accusing the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of fostering a hostile political climate marked by “subtle provocations, obstacles, and shifting dynamics.”

According to Mohammed, the PDP has endured a series of challenges in recent months, including high-profile defections and coalition talks targeting its members. Despite these efforts, he stressed that the party remains unshaken in its commitment to democracy and national development.

“Despite these pressures, our members remain steadfast and unwavering. There is no form of intimidation or persuasion that we, as elected governors and members, have not encountered. Yet, we remain resolute in our commitment,” Mohammed declared.

He contrasted the PDP’s internal cohesion with what he described as fragmentation within other political parties.

“Other parties have been fragmented, with factions emerging here and there. But it is undeniable that we stand together as one,” he added.

Governor Mohammed also highlighted the Forum’s efforts to sustain the PDP’s visibility and relevance by holding state-level meetings and issuing communiqués on governance issues. He cited recent strategic engagements in Plateau, Taraba, Oyo, Delta, Akwa Ibom, and Bauchi States as examples of the party’s proactive approach.

“We have been conducting meetings across various states and issuing communiqués addressing critical governance issues. These efforts are aimed at maintaining our visibility and demonstrating that we are not yielding to the pressures around us,” he said.

He commended the resilience of party leaders and members, describing the 99th NEC meeting as a victory for democracy and a reaffirmation of the PDP’s role in shaping Nigeria’s political landscape.

“The patience, courage, and dedication of our members are what continue to drive this party forward,” he concluded.
