AWKA – The former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State, Chief Ndubuisi Nwobu, has lambasted Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over his continued association with the PDP despite publicly backing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
Speaking to journalists on Thursday in Awka, Nwobu described Wike’s stance as “cowardly,” accusing the former Rivers State governor of lacking the courage to officially defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), which he claimed Wike now supports in both word and deed.
“If Wike were man enough, he would go and obtain an APC membership card,” Nwobu said. “You can’t claim loyalty to one party while promoting the interest of another. That is not how political integrity works.”
Nwobu further alleged that during his time as governor, Wike exercised excessive influence within the PDP, often dictating key decisions and appointments under the guise of supporting the party.
“Wike acted as the PDP’s alter ego, planting loyalists across the party structure, especially within the National Working Committee (NWC),” he said. “While pretending to serve the party, he was building a foundation for his personal political ambitions.”
The former state chairman claimed that Wike’s lingering grip on the party, maintained through loyalists and alleged financial inducements, has made it difficult for the PDP to hold him accountable.
“Most of the former NWC members owed their positions to him. Even now, many remain loyal due to his ongoing influence,” he said. “But we have started the process of reclaiming the party. The national secretary, one of his key allies, has already been removed.”
Nwobu disclosed that the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) will meet in May to ratify recent decisions taken by the NWC, paving the way for a national convention where a new leadership is expected to emerge.
“With new leadership, the political colouration that has held the PDP hostage will be eliminated. Wike’s undue influence will finally be rooted out,” he concluded.
The remarks mark a significant escalation in internal party tensions as the PDP prepares for critical restructuring ahead of future national elections.
