PDP Blasts Aliero, Others Over Defection to APC Labels Move ‘Betrayal and Ingratitude’

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kebbi State has strongly condemned the recent defection of three senators, including Senator Adamu Aliero, to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the move as an act of political betrayal and selfish ambition.

Addressing journalists in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday, PDP State Chairman, Usman Bello Suru, expressed disappointment over the lawmakers’ return to the APC — the same party, he said, that denied them tickets in the lead-up to the 2023 general elections.

“When the APC rejected them, it was the PDP that gave them a platform and stood by them,” Suru said. “Now, they are returning to the same APC that has inflicted hardship and rising cost of living on Nigerians.”

Suru accused the defecting senators of acting out of personal interest rather than for the benefit of the people they represent. “This is purely personal and an act of ingratitude,” he stated.

Despite the high-profile defections, Suru reaffirmed the PDP’s strength in the state. “We are not shaken by their defection. The PDP is still strong and standing firm in Kebbi,” he declared.

The defection of Senator Aliero and two other senators has triggered political tension in Kebbi, as the APC continues to record major gains across the country ahead of the 2027 elections.
