Former Senate Deputy President and Delta State APC governorship candidate in the 2023 elections, Ovie Omo-Agege, has strongly refuted widespread rumors suggesting he is planning to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC). In a statement issued on Tuesday by his media adviser, Sunny Areh, Omo-Agege described the claims as “baseless” and dismissed them as speculative journalism without any factual foundation.
The rumors, which claimed that Omo-Agege was considering joining forces with former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, to launch a new political party, were labeled by Omo-Agege as both “shocking” and “idiotic.”
Omo-Agege, who led the APC to its best-ever performance in Delta State during the 2023 general elections—securing two of the three senatorial seats and narrowly losing the governorship race—emphatically rejected any association with el-Rufai’s supposed new political group, calling the entire story a “fable” without merit.
He further suggested that the rumors were part of a “hatchet job” orchestrated by political rivals attempting to drive a wedge between him and President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In his statement, Omo-Agege reiterated his unwavering commitment to the APC and his goal of “rescuing” Delta State from what he termed “serial failed administrations” by 2027. He stressed his determination to continue leading the party in the state, assuring supporters of his steadfast loyalty and resolve.
