More than 2,000 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area of Abia State have defected to the Labour Party (LP) in a major political realignment. The mass defection, led by the ward chairmen, follows the recent move of Hon. Rowland Dennis, the lawmaker representing Isiala Ngwa South Constituency, who also dumped the PDP for the LP.

Governor Alex Otti officially welcomed the defectors into the Labour Party, where they were presented with party flags by the LP Chairman of Isiala Ngwa South, Smart Ogbonna. Addressing the new members, Otti described the Labour Party as an inclusive platform open to all Nigerians and dedicated to good governance.

The governor praised Hon. Dennis for mobilizing his supporters to join the party, assuring the defectors that they would be fully integrated and enjoy equal status with long-standing members. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to serving the less privileged and delivering democracy dividends to the people of Abia State.

Dismissing speculations linking Dennis’ defection to the 2027 elections, Otti maintained that his focus remained on fulfilling his mandate rather than engaging in future political contests.

In his remarks, Hon. Dennis cited the governor’s impressive performance across the state as the driving force behind his decision to join the Labour Party.
