Osun Governor Reacts to APC’s Allegations of Secret Loans, Dismisses Claims as ‘Fake News’

The Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, has responded to allegations made by the All Progressives Congress (APC) regarding the alleged secret acquisition of foreign loans and the call for accountability from the state government.

During a press conference in Osogbo, the APC accused the Adeleke administration of secretly signing a $51 million (N81.6 billion) foreign loan, with claims that the government is misleading the public about its financial dealings. The APC’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, warned that such borrowing could plunge the state into significant financial trouble, jeopardizing the future of Osun’s citizens. He stressed the need for the state government to disclose the true financial records, particularly in light of alleged misuse of public resources for personal gain.

Olabisi also referenced the inclusion of the NG-CARES facility in the state’s 2024 budget, suggesting that it is a form of borrowing, and refuted the notion that the Adeleke administration had not taken any loans since taking office.

In response, Olawale Rasheed, the Governor’s spokesperson, vehemently denied the allegations. Rasheed categorically rejected the claims, asserting that Osun State has not acquired any foreign loans under the NG-CARES program. He further emphasized that no loan approval requests had been made for any projects by the state government.

“This is fake news, a baseless accusation that the APC continues to spread. The people of Osun are well-informed and capable of discerning the truth about their government’s financial management,” Rasheed said.

The ongoing war of words between the APC and the state government continues to highlight the political tension in Osun, as both sides call for transparency and accountability in the handling of state resources.
