Osun APC Stakeholders Advocate for Zoning Governorship Ticket to Osun West

Stakeholders in the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have called on the party leadership to zone the 2026 governorship ticket to the Osun West Senatorial District. The group argues that this move is essential for the party to reclaim power from Governor Ademola Adeleke and ensure equity in the state’s political landscape.

The demand was made during a solidarity rally held in Osogbo, the state capital, as party members marched to the APC Secretariat to submit a formal letter urging the leadership to prioritize balanced power distribution.

Addressing journalists after the rally, the Coordinator of the Coalition of Osun APC Interest Groups (COAIG), Mr. Obafemi Amoo, emphasized the strategic importance of zoning the governorship ticket to Osun West.

“As committed members of this great party, we are here today in large numbers to reiterate our shared vision of returning Osun State to APC governance, aligning once again with the central government under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Amoo stated.

He argued that Osun West holds the key to APC’s electoral success in 2026, saying, “Given the current political climate in the state, our best chance of victory lies in fielding a candidate from the Osun West Senatorial District. The region boasts numerous credible and capable candidates who can champion the party’s progressive agenda.”

Amoo further highlighted the history of governorship zoning in the state, pointing out that Osun East has produced a governor for eight years, while Osun Central has dominated with 15 and a half years of leadership, including eight years under the APC. In contrast, Osun West has yet to produce a governor in the current political dispensation.

“We passionately appeal to the leadership of our party to consider this option in the interest of fairness, equity, and the overall progress of Osun State,” he concluded.

The rally and subsequent submission of the letter underscore growing calls within the party for a strategic approach to the 2026 governorship election.
