The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has responded to the announcement by The Omoluabi Progressives, a political group loyal to former Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, that it has officially parted ways with the party.
In a statement issued on Monday by Kola Olabisi, the Osun APC Director of Media and Information, the party dismissed the development, describing the group’s exit as inconsequential and overdue.
“We, in the Osun State APC, are unbothered by the departure of political irritants who, in body and soul, left the party before the 2022 governorship election,” the statement read. Olabisi further criticized the group, describing their exit as “good riddance to bad rubbish” and accusing them of working against the APC’s interests while allegedly serving the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
“How would anyone suspended or expelled from the party announce their resignation again? This is not only superfluous but also an act of political insincerity,” the statement continued.
The APC also accused The Omoluabi Progressives of being disrespectful to the party’s elders and betraying its principles. Olabisi labeled the group’s decision to either form or join another political party as the beginning of their “political funeral,” predicting their irrelevance by the time of the 2026 governorship election.
The party expressed confidence in its growing strength and dismissed the impact of the group’s departure, describing their followers as “blindfolded” and likely to regret their allegiance.
This reaction followed The Omoluabi Progressives’ announcement on Sunday, where the group officially declared its departure from the APC. According to a statement signed by Abosede Oluwaseun, the group’s Organising and Publicity Secretary, the decision was reached unanimously by stakeholders and ratified during a meeting in Ilesa.
The group, which has been critical of the APC’s leadership in the state, claimed its decision reflected the consensus of members across all 332 wards in Osun.
As the fallout between the APC and The Omoluabi Progressives continues, political analysts are closely watching the implications for the party and the state’s political landscape ahead of the 2026 elections.
