Osun APC Pulls Out of LG Polls

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has officially withdrawn from the upcoming local government elections scheduled for Saturday, February 22, 2025, citing a recent Appeal Court judgment that rendered the polls unnecessary and unlawful.

In a letter addressed to the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) on Wednesday, APC State Secretary, Alao Olabisi Kamoru, confirmed the party’s decision to pull out, referencing the Appeal Court judgment in Akure as the basis.

The court ruling, delivered on February 10, 2025, in Appeal No. CA/AK/270/2022, overturned an earlier Federal High Court decision (Suit No. FHC/OS/CS/94/2022), effectively reinstating previously elected local government officials.

“By this judgment, the elected officers have resumed office as allowed by the Appeal Court ruling,” the letter stated. “The implication… is that the local council seats are no longer vacant.”

The APC emphasized that proceeding with the elections would now be “unnecessary, superfluous, and unlawful.”

The party had been actively campaigning across Osun’s 30 local government areas before the unexpected withdrawal.
