The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected a petition filed by the state government under Governor Ademola Adeleke, alleging that former governor Gboyega Oyetola mismanaged a $20 million World Bank health grant meant for the Save One Million Lives (SOML) programme.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Sunday, APC spokesperson Mogaji Olabisi refuted the claims, insisting that the funds were transparently utilized to enhance healthcare services in Osun.
“The SOML initiative is a World Bank-funded programme aimed at improving maternal and child healthcare. The funds were diligently monitored, and the records of implementation are publicly available,” Olabisi stated.
He further challenged the Adeleke administration to present verifiable evidence to support its allegations, adding that no government official under Oyetola’s tenure was awarded contracts in violation of procurement laws.
In a counter-accusation, the APC alleged that the current administration had misappropriated billions of naira, including N40 billion from local government funds, with N11 billion spent on luxury vehicles for politicians and over N5 billion used to renovate the governor’s lodges— a contract reportedly awarded to Adeleke’s son-in-law.
“The state government should publish the names of contractors and the dates of contract awards to back up their claims, rather than engaging in a politically motivated witch hunt,” Olabisi asserted.
The development adds a new twist to the ongoing political tensions in Osun, as both parties continue to trade accusations over financial management and governance.
