Former spokesperson to ex-Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Laolu Akande, has dismissed rumors suggesting that Osinbajo has abandoned politics or resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC). In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Lagos, Akande firmly stated that there is no basis for such assumptions.
Speculation surrounding Osinbajo’s political future has been rife, fueled by his noticeable absence from recent political activities since leaving office in 2023. His withdrawal from public political circles led many to question if he had left the APC or distanced himself from politics altogether. Osinbajo, who contested the APC primary in 2022 but lost the party’s ticket to President Bola Tinubu, has also been appointed as a Global Advisor for the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP), further fueling the speculation of a reduced political focus.
However, Akande reassured the public that there is no official word from Osinbajo about leaving the party. “He has not informed me of any decision to leave politics, and as far as I know, he is still a member of the APC,” Akande emphasized. He also added that Osinbajo would attend any APC gathering that requires his presence.
Despite his more recent involvement in international advisory roles, Akande expressed confidence that Osinbajo remains committed to the APC. “If he gets an invitation to the caucus, you know, he will be there,” Akande concluded, reinforcing that the former Vice President has not turned his back on the party.
