The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State has suffered a major blow following the resignation of its State Publicity Secretary, Kenedy Peretei, who cited a lack of political will and selfish leadership as reasons for his exit.
In a strongly worded resignation letter addressed to the chairman of Arogbo Ward 1, Peretei expressed deep dissatisfaction with the state of the party, accusing its leadership of prioritizing personal interests over electoral success.
“It is difficult to work with people whose interests are only themselves and how they can use the party to trade every election year,” he wrote.
Peretei, who previously served as the party’s State Financial Secretary from 1999 to 2003, and later as Publicity Secretary from 2020, said he had contributed significantly to the PDP over the years. However, he lamented that the party had been hijacked by a clique of individuals who have made electoral victory nearly impossible in recent cycles.
“But the same people who have held the party hostage, making it impossible to win elections in the last three election cycles, have tightened their grip on a party that lay prostrate at the Intensive Care Unit. The PDP in Ondo State is now on its way to the mortuary,” he stated.
He further urged party loyalists who rely on political patronage to “seek second addresses,” describing those still hanging on as “political bandits, Almajaris or just ‘Yes’ men.”
Peretei’s resignation is expected to deepen the internal crisis within the Ondo State chapter of the PDP, raising fresh concerns about its readiness ahead of future elections.
