The internal crisis rocking the Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took a dramatic turn on Wednesday as a prominent leader of the party, Senator Nicholas Tofowomo, openly criticized the state leadership, accusing them of betrayal and insincerity.
Tofowomo’s remarks followed the resignation of the party’s spokesperson, Kennedy Peretei, who was allegedly sidelined after being encouraged by party leaders to contest for the state chairmanship position—a promise Tofowomo claims was later broken.
“The party leadership owes Peretei an apology for playing games with him and for betraying him,” Tofowomo said. “They were the ones who invited him to show interest in the chairmanship position. If that had not happened, I wouldn’t be this angry.”
Expressing frustration over the party’s poor performance in the last elections, Tofowomo said the leadership must take responsibility for the PDP’s defeat in all 18 local government areas of the state.
“Our party lost 18-0 across the local governments,” he stated. “Am I to blame for the PDP’s failure in other areas, including Ajayi’s own ward? It is on record that the party’s candidate did not even win in his ward.”
The senator reaffirmed his loyalty to the PDP, emphasizing his contributions and long-standing commitment to the party. “I am a bona fide member of the PDP, and I have paid my dues,” he said.
Tofowomo’s outburst signals deeper cracks within the opposition party in Ondo State, raising concerns over unity ahead of future elections.
