The Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has intensified its campaigns ahead of the upcoming local government elections, emphasizing its commitment to maintaining a stronghold across the state. The party, which secured a sweeping victory in last year’s governorship election by winning all 18 local government areas, has vowed to replicate the feat in Saturday’s polls.
In a strategic move, the APC has inaugurated a campaign coordination committee chaired by Charles Fagbunka to oversee grassroots mobilization across the 18 local government areas. Speaking at a press briefing, Alex Kalejaiye, the party’s spokesperson, highlighted the APC’s readiness and unified front, following reconciliatory efforts to resolve internal grievances.
“We have directed our leaders to mobilize members and canvass for votes in churches and markets. Our campaigns are in full swing at the wards and local government levels. We are confident that our track record will earn us victory,” Kalejaiye said.
He reiterated the party’s commitment to ethical campaigning, dismissing any notions of vote-buying. “We trust the people will vote based on our performance. During the governorship election, we campaigned and won across the state. This time, we believe the people will once again choose APC candidates for their councilors and chairpersons.”
Kalejaiye also emphasized the APC’s achievements, including significant infrastructural development funded through taxpayers’ contributions, which he described as pivotal to the party’s appeal.
Acknowledging the presence of 13 political parties in the race, the APC spokesperson stressed that the party is not underestimating the competition but is confident in its candidates and grassroots structure.
“Our committees have been active, and we have been working tirelessly at the wards and units. The APC is committed to bettering the lives of the people of Ondo State. With our track record, it is unimaginable to think we could lose,” he added.
The Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC) will oversee the polls, where voters will elect local government councilors and chairpersons. As the APC focuses on consolidating its influence, all eyes are on Saturday’s election to see if the ruling party can sustain its dominance in the Sunshine State.
