BREAKING: Okorocha joins 2023 presidential race
Former Imo State Governor and ex-Senator representing Imo West, Rochas Okorocha, has firmly denied speculations suggesting he plans to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the claims as baseless and politically motivated.

In a statement released on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Media, Sam Onwuemeodo, Okorocha dismissed a widely circulated social media report that quoted him as criticizing the APC and labeling it “a party desperate to hijack power.” He denounced the report as a fabrication by detractors intent on damaging his political reputation.

“Okorocha would never describe a party that has been in government since 2015—and still counting—as ‘desperate to hijack power.’ What power again?” the statement read.

Reiterating his long-standing commitment to the ruling party, Okorocha emphasized his role as a founding member of the APC and stressed that if he had any reservations about the party, he would address them through appropriate channels—not social media.

“Almost eight years after leaving office as Executive Governor of Imo State, and several years after serving as Senator representing Imo West, those with a phobia of Rochas Okorocha still cannot sleep with their two eyes closed,” the statement said.

He also recalled the political risks he took in 2013 when he joined the APC, at a time when the party had minimal support in the South-East. According to Okorocha, his decision attracted ridicule from regional political leaders, but he remained steadfast.

“Okorocha took a political risk when major South-East leaders doubted the viability of the APC. He was ridiculed for his decision, yet he stayed committed,” the statement noted.

Highlighting his contributions to the party’s early growth, the statement added that Okorocha was unanimously elected as the pioneer Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum by fellow APC governors, a position from which he helped to build the party’s influence across Nigeria.

The statement reaffirmed that Rochas Okorocha remains a “bonafide, committed member of the APC” and has no plans to leave the party he helped establish.
