Two separate groups from the North Central region have initiated legal actions to challenge the legitimacy of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje’s position as the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Concerned North Central APC Stakeholders and the North Central All Progressives Congress (APC) Forum have both taken steps to nullify Ganduje’s chairmanship.
The Concerned North Central APC Stakeholders, through an originating summons filed in an FCT high court, argue that Ganduje’s chairmanship violates the APC Constitution and the consensus reached at the 2022 National Convention, which stipulated that the national chairman must hail from the North Central zone.
Meanwhile, the North Central All Progressives Congress (APC) Forum has filed a suit in a federal high court in Abuja, alleging a breach of the party’s constitution in Ganduje’s nomination to replace ex-chairman Abdullahi Adamu in 2023.
The defendants in these suits include Ganduje, the APC, and in one case, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). No hearing dates have been set yet.
