There is so much money, we won’t borrow to pay salaries – Kwankwaso
Former Kano State Governor and 2023 Presidential Candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has reiterated his commitment to issue-based and ideological politics as he received over 1,230 former party members back into the NNPP fold.

The returnees, mostly former loyalists of Senator Abdurrahman Kawu Sumaila, were welcomed by Kwankwaso at his Miller Road residence in Kano. Their defection back to the NNPP comes after Sumaila’s recent move to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Addressing the crowd, Kwankwaso praised their decision to rejoin the NNPP, emphasizing that the party is built on principles and not on financial inducements.

“I am always happy to receive people who believe in our movement — not because of financial incentives, but because of our collective vision for a better Nigeria. This is politics of ideology, not politics of the highest bidder,” he stated.

Kwankwaso, the founder of the Kwankwassiya movement, highlighted the NNPP’s distinction as a party rooted in progressive ideals and grassroots development, contrasting it with the transactional politics that he says dominate other platforms.

Speaking on behalf of the returnees, Jamilu Zamba and Maryam Romo expressed their renewed loyalty to the NNPP, citing Kwankwaso’s integrity, consistency, and people-oriented leadership as their motivation for returning.

The defectors, who hail from Albasu and Sumaila Local Government Areas in the Kano South Senatorial District, were previously aligned with the Waraka political group under Sumaila’s leadership. Additional defectors also came from Bunkure and Tofa LGAs.

Their return marks a significant moment for the NNPP in Kano State, as the party seeks to consolidate its grassroots strength and expand its ideological influence ahead of future political contests.
