NNPP Suspends Ondo Governorship Candidate Over Alleged Anti-Party Activities

0

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has indefinitely suspended its Ondo State governorship candidate, Olugbenga Edema, along with his running mate, Rotimi Adeyemi, ahead of the November 16, 2024 election.

Their suspension, announced by the party’s State Working Committee (SWC) in Akure, also extends to a prominent party chieftain, Isreal Ayeni. The NNPP’s state chairman, Pastor Peter Olagookun, cited their alleged involvement in anti-party activities and violations of the party’s constitution as the reasons for the disciplinary action.

Olagookun stated that Edema took the party to court without first utilizing its internal dispute resolution mechanisms. He emphasized that the SWC’s decision was based on “suing in the name of the party without consulting the appropriate stakeholders at the state and national levels, as stipulated in our constitution.”

The party chairman further accused Edema of breaching internal protocols and engaging in actions detrimental to the party’s interests.
