NNPP Rejects El-Rufai’s Claims of APC’s Involvement in Party Crisis

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has dismissed allegations made by former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, suggesting that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) was behind the party’s internal crisis. In a statement released on Wednesday, NNPP’s National Chairman, Agbo Major, strongly refuted El-Rufai’s claims, emphasizing that the party’s recent challenges were self-inflicted and not the result of external interference.

El-Rufai had previously alleged in a viral video on X that the APC, under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, was deliberately fueling disputes within opposition parties, including the NNPP, to weaken their leadership. However, Major clarified that the internal disagreements within NNPP, which have since been resolved, stemmed from the ambitions of certain members who violated party agreements and regulations.

“The crisis in NNPP was a direct consequence of the termination of a Memorandum of Understanding with The National Movement (TNM) and the Kwankwassiya Movement, and was made public in the aftermath of the 2023 general elections,” Major stated. He further stressed that the issues were internal and based on the party’s democratic processes, rather than external manipulation.

Major urged El-Rufai to refrain from commenting on NNPP’s internal affairs, asserting that the party’s primary focus remains on serving the Nigerian people through good governance, collaboration, and adherence to the rule of law, rather than engaging in opposition politics.
