Nicholas Ukachukwu Declares Bid for Anambra Governorship, Vows to Unite APC for Victory

Former member of the House of Representatives for Abuja Municipal Area Council, Nicholas Ukachukwu, has officially declared his intention to contest the Anambra State gubernatorial election scheduled for November.

Ukachukwu made the announcement during a meeting with the executive members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State on Wednesday. Earlier in the week, he had formalized his membership in the party by registering at his ward in Orsumenyi, Nnewi South Local Government Area.

Addressing the state executives, Ukachukwu emphasized his readiness to lead and his commitment to fostering unity within the APC to ensure the party’s success in the upcoming election.

“I am here so you can hear directly from me: I am contesting for the position of governor of Anambra State,” Ukachukwu affirmed. “I have informed my ward, my local government area, and my zone, and now I am presenting my intentions to the state executive.”

The former lawmaker described himself as a party loyalist with a proven track record of supporting the APC. He called on members to back a candidate recognized across the state and trustworthy with power.

Ukachukwu also revealed his initial reluctance to run for the governorship, out of respect for his late “younger brother,” Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who had declared his ambition before his passing. He stated, “My brother met me earlier and expressed his intention to run for governor, asking me not to contest against him due to my contributions to his Senate election. I respected his decision. However, now that he is no more, I feel it is my duty to complete the vision he began.”

Lauding President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, Ukachukwu likened his approach to governance to that of a strategic businessman making long-term investments. “Tinubu is planting seeds for Nigeria’s future prosperity. While the benefits may not be immediate, his actions will yield abundance in due time. I intend to bring the same visionary approach to Anambra State,” he pledged.

Ukachukwu promised to focus on party unity and reconciliation to counter the dominance of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the state. He attributed APGA’s consistent victories to internal divisions within opposition parties and assured APC members that his leadership would bridge gaps and foster collaboration.

As part of his campaign promises, Ukachukwu committed to serving a single term to complete the eight-year rotation for Anambra South Senatorial Zone. He also assured members that he was fully prepared to lead a robust campaign and secure victory for the APC.

“We must come together to end the APGA reign in Anambra. With unity and your trust, I promise not to disappoint,” he concluded.
