Mr. Fred Oghenesivbe, an aide to Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, has suggested that Senator Ned Nwoko’s recent departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is driven by concerns over securing the party’s governorship ticket for the 2027 election.
Nwoko, the senator representing Delta North, formally announced his resignation from the PDP in a letter dated January 30, 2025, addressed to his ward in Aniocha North Local Government Area. The letter cited the ongoing leadership crisis within the party as the primary reason for his decision to leave.
In response to the defection, Oghenesivbe, who serves as the Director General of the Delta State Orientation and Communication Bureau, stated in an interview with TVC News that Nwoko’s move is more about the 2027 elections than any internal party issues.
He explained, “Senator Ned Nwoko defected because he is worried about not securing the PDP ticket in 2027. It was clear that he would eventually leave the party. His defection is driven by the politics of 2027 and the desire to secure a ticket to run for governor.”
Oghenesivbe further criticized Nwoko’s representation of the party at the national level, claiming that the senator’s actions have not aligned with the party’s interests, fueling doubts about his future within the PDP.
