Ned Nwoko to Oborevwori: Leave Old PDP Habits Behind, Embrace Transformative Politics in APC

Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North, has urged Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to abandon the “old habits” of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following his recent defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement addressed to the governor, Nwoko welcomed Oborevwori’s decision to dump the PDP but cautioned that true political transformation would require shedding the practices that contributed to the opposition party’s decline in Delta State.

“No one pours new wine into old wineskins,” Nwoko said. “Old habits, old politics, and old deals that led to the gradual decay of the PDP in Delta must be left behind. Leave behind the politics of survival and step into the politics of legacy.”

The senator also emphasized that the APC is already moving forward with plans for constitutional amendments, including the long-anticipated creation of Anioma and New Delta states. According to him, this agenda was a “done deal” long before Oborevwori’s defection, showcasing the party’s commitment to ending regional marginalisation and correcting historical imbalances.

He urged the governor to embrace a new sense of purpose by championing constitutional reforms and ensuring that his switch to the APC goes beyond symbolism.

“Your defection must not be symbolic; it must be transformative,” Nwoko said. “This is your opportunity to demonstrate renewed dedication to progressive governance, fairness, and inclusive development.”

Highlighting the significance of the proposed states, Nwoko noted that the creation of Anioma State would finally provide voice, identity, and institutional power to Delta North’s aspirations, while the formation of New Delta State would address internal disparities and bring government closer to neglected communities, unlocking new economic opportunities.

The senator’s call comes amid growing political realignments in Delta State, as more figures and groups react to Governor Oborevwori’s move to the APC.
