Namadi Sambo Debunks Defection Rumours, Reaffirms Loyalty to PDP

Former Vice President of Nigeria, Arc. Mohammed Namadi Sambo, has firmly denied rumours suggesting he has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Reports circulated widely on Wednesday, alleging Sambo had joined the APC, citing a photograph of him alongside Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, as evidence. However, in a swift response on Thursday, Sambo’s media adviser, Umar Sani, issued a strongly worded statement dismissing the claims as false, misleading, and politically motivated.

“My attention has been drawn to a widely circulated story alleging that His Excellency, Arc. Mohammed Namadi Sambo, GCON, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). This claim is entirely false and without any basis,” the statement read.

Sani clarified that the photograph being used to support the defection rumour was not recent but taken years ago during a condolence visit by Governor Uba Sani to Sambo’s Abuja residence following the death of his brother, the late Sani Sambo.

“The image is now being deliberately misrepresented to fit a contrived narrative,” he added.

He further emphasized that Sambo remains a dedicated and loyal member of the PDP, with no intention of leaving the party.

As part of his ongoing commitment to public service, Sambo is scheduled to attend the commissioning of a 300-bed hospital in Kaduna on Thursday, June 19, 2025—a project he initiated while in office. Sani stressed that the former Vice President’s presence at the event should not be misconstrued as a political alignment or defection.

“For the avoidance of doubt, His Excellency, Arc. Mohammed Namadi Sambo, remains a loyal and committed member of the PDP. The defection story is purely the figment of the imagination of its authors, calculated to sow confusion and achieve cheap political mileage,” Sani concluded.

The statement puts to rest growing speculations surrounding Sambo’s political allegiance amid ongoing realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
