In a significant political development, over 100,000 members from various opposition parties in Katsina State formally joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Sunday. The mass defection, which included notable figures such as Rabiu Bakori, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) deputy governorship candidate in the 2015 election, took place during the flag-off of the APC’s Local Government Elections Campaign in Ingawa Local Government Area.

The defectors, drawn primarily from the PDP, the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), the Accord Party, and the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), were officially welcomed by APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje and members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).

Describing the event as a milestone in Katsina’s political landscape, Ganduje assured the new members of fair treatment and equal opportunities within the party. “Today, we welcome individuals from the PDP, NNPP, Accord Party, APP, and PRP,” he said. “Katsina people are known for their dedication, hard work, unity, hospitality, and religious values. The APC is the party committed to delivering the true dividends of democracy.”

Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda expressed confidence in the APC’s continued dominance in the state. Speaking at the event, Radda highlighted the party’s achievements and reassured supporters of sustained development under his administration. He also urged party loyalists to actively participate in the upcoming local government elections, scheduled for February 15, 2025.

“We are welcoming over 100,000 decampees today from the PDP, NNPP, PRP, and Accord Party, who have acknowledged the impact of our efforts,” Radda said. “I urge our supporters to come out in large numbers and vote for the APC without fear. Our administration remains committed to continuing the good work we have started, and our former governors, senators, and House of Representatives members remain united in this mission.”

The event underscores the APC’s growing influence in Katsina State ahead of the February elections, further solidifying its position as the dominant political party in the region.
