Former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has debunked rumours suggesting he has left the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Social Democratic Party (SDP), insisting that he remains a committed member of the ruling party.
In a statement issued by his media aide, Mohammed Bello Doka, on Thursday, Malami clarified that while he is actively engaged in wide-ranging political consultations, any talk of defection is premature.
“Malami is a prominent figure in Nigeria and cannot defect to any party in secret,” the statement read. “He is still with the APC but is in broad consultations with different platforms. Until the consultations are concluded, it is premature to discuss defection or a declaration of interest.”
Doka also reaffirmed that Malami remains an active participant in the political landscape and will make his intentions known at the appropriate time.
“Malami has every right to belong to any political party and to contest for any position in Kebbi State,” he added.
The statement comes amid growing speculation over Malami’s political future and his possible ambitions ahead of the next electoral cycle.
