Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has cautioned the All Progressives Congress (APC) against actions that could jeopardize Nigeria’s democratic process, particularly in Osun State’s local government administration.
Speaking in Osogbo on Sunday during the swearing-in of 30 newly elected local government chairmen, all from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Makinde urged the APC not to misuse federal power to subvert democracy.
“We just want to peacefully deliver the dividends of democracy to our people. So, nobody should resort to self-help,” Makinde stated.
He emphasized that even with a favorable court ruling, due process must be followed, warning against actions that could incite violence.
Makinde also charged the newly inaugurated council chairmen to fulfill their mandates and justify the trust placed in them during the elections, which saw PDP clinch all chairmanship positions across Osun’s 30 local government areas.
