Lagos Assembly Members Dismiss Defection Rumors

Lagos State House of Assembly members have strongly denied circulating rumors suggesting their defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Labour Party.

In a statement issued by the Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Strategy, and Security, Mr. Stephen Ogundipe, the lawmakers refuted claims that 25 members were planning to leave the APC. Ogundipe noted that similar reports emerged during a recent leadership dispute within the Assembly, alleging that 27 members were set to defect—claims that were also categorically denied.

“That claim was unequivocally refuted, with members affirming their commitment to the party and confidence in resolving internal disagreements through established mechanisms,” he stated.

Reiterating their loyalty, the lawmakers emphasized that no APC member in the Lagos State House of Assembly is considering defection.

“As true progressives, we acknowledge that challenges may arise but remain committed to addressing them through democratic and lawful processes. The leadership of our party is fully engaged, and any outstanding issues will be resolved amicably,” Ogundipe added.

The Assembly urged the public to disregard what they described as misleading reports intended to create unnecessary tension. They also reaffirmed their loyalty to the leader of the party and President of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, vowing continued dedication to APC’s ideals.

The lawmakers further cautioned against the spread of false information, emphasizing that the Lagos State House of Assembly remains focused on its legislative duties to advance the development of the state.
