Lagos – Joe Igbokwe, a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has condemned the recent invasion of the Lagos State House of Assembly by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the police, labeling it an example of “kindergarten politics.”
The incident unfolded as DSS agents moved to secure the complex, reportedly attempting to seal the offices of Speaker Mojisola Meranda, Deputy Speaker, and the Clerk of the House. Meranda had arrived around noon with her convoy, and lawmakers have expressed their continued support for her leadership after her emergence as Speaker on January 13, following the impeachment of Mudashiru Obasa.
Obasa, who was in the United States during his impeachment, rejected the process upon his return, asserting that due procedure was not followed. The controversy escalated when a letter, signed by the Clerk of the Assembly, surfaced, requesting DSS assistance to fortify security in anticipation of February 18, citing Obasa’s plan to resume his role as Speaker.
Reacting to the events on Facebook, Igbokwe stated, “I am yet to comprehend what happened at the Lagos State House of Assembly today. I know that Lagos is not a place for kindergarten politics. I know also that Lagos is not a state where anything goes. It is still the center of excellence.”
