Labour Party Is Dying, Mass Defections Imminent – APC’s Valentine Ozigbo Declares

Valentine Ozigbo, a governorship aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State, has declared that the Labour Party (LP) is on the verge of collapse, asserting that mass defections from the party are only a matter of time.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s Morning Show, Ozigbo, a former LP member, said his decision to join the APC was based on critical analysis and the need to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s political future.

“Labour Party is not exactly what people think it is; it’s almost in its dying days,” he stated. “There is hardly any elected member of the party that I have spoken to who is planning to seek reelection under the same platform.”

Ozigbo maintained that his defection from LP to APC was not about endorsing every action of the ruling party, but about becoming an agent of change within the system.

“I moved into the APC not just to join the crowd but to add value. My defection has shifted the political narrative and boosted the strength of the party in Anambra,” he said.

He also dismissed claims that he defected without grassroots support, noting that his move has sparked significant conversation and political realignment in the state.

On the upcoming governorship election in Anambra, Ozigbo took a swipe at Governor Charles Soludo, alleging that Soludo plays a double political role—representing APGA publicly while allegedly aligning with APC interests behind the scenes.

“If Soludo wants to be APGA, he should stay APGA. This double play of being APGA by day and APC by night only weakens the political space and confuses the people,” Ozigbo said.

He further dismissed APGA as a spent force, stating, “APGA is in the past. Anambra needs a fresh direction, and that’s what I’m here to offer under the APC.”
