A socio-political group, Abia Concerned Citizens (ACC), has accused the Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party (LP) of executing a covert agenda allegedly designed by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to weaken opposition forces ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking in Abuja on Thursday, the Director General of ACC, Rose Ugoh, claimed that the Abure faction was acting as an “APC mole,” bent on destabilizing the Labour Party from within.
She cited a recent statement by LP’s factional National Secretary, Alhaji Umar Ibrahim, in which he appealed to President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the party’s internal crisis — a move she described as a clear betrayal of opposition unity.
Ugoh stated:
“All genuine LP members have accepted the Supreme Court judgment and are working towards reconciliation. However, Abure and his loyalists appear determined to destroy the party by externalizing internal matters.”
She further criticized Abure for not taking decisive action when Labour Party lawmakers defected to the APC and accused him of targeting high-performing members such as Governor Alex Otti of Abia State.
“Is this not the same Abure who claimed the party suspended the best-performing governor in Nigeria — the best in the history of the South East?” Ugoh queried. “Governor Otti has become a model of good governance, leading Abia’s transformation across sectors like energy, education, security, and the economy.”
The ACC also condemned the reported suspension of key party figures, including Senator Ireti Kingibe, who represents the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), calling the action unjustified and divisive.
Ugoh concluded by warning that Abians will not allow “APC agents” disguised as party leaders to tarnish the achievements of Governor Otti or weaken the Labour Party from within.
