The Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party (LP) has told party members to disregard recent directives from former presidential candidate Peter Obi, urging them instead to fully support LP candidates in the upcoming by-elections.
In a statement signed by factional chairman Julius Abure, the party leadership accused Obi of misleading supporters after he called on his followers to back African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidates in the polls scheduled across several states.
Describing Obi’s position as “misleading, mischievous, and delusional,” Abure urged members to reject what he termed a “malicious directive” and stand firmly behind the party’s own candidates.
“The attention of the leadership of the Labour Party has been drawn to a statement by the party’s former presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi. Don’t listen to him,” Abure said. “Nigerians have come to know who Peter Obi really is.”
He reiterated that the Labour Party remains firmly on the ballot and called for unity among members to ensure victory in the by-elections.
