Labour Party Chieftain Alleges Political Persecution, Fears for Life

Lagos-based businessman and Labour Party (LP) chieftain, Mr. Akinbola Tunde, has raised alarm over alleged political persecution, intimidation, and threats to his life, following his active role in mobilizing grassroots support for the party during the 2023 general elections.

Akinbola recounted a series of harrowing incidents, including a violent home invasion on March 4, 2023, while he was away in Ondo State. According to him, armed political thugs stormed his residence, calling out his name as they searched for him. When they couldn’t find him, they vandalized his property and brutally assaulted his housemaid, Miss Adeoti Rachael, who was later hospitalized at Pillars Medical Centre.

He also detailed an earlier attack on December 12, 2022, when he was ambushed while returning from an LP campaign event in Alimosho, Lagos State. “I was attacked by armed political thugs. In the struggle to escape, I sustained a severe knee injury that took six weeks to heal,” he stated.

Despite reporting these incidents to the police, Akinbola expressed frustration over the lack of arrests, saying the perpetrators continue to act with impunity.

With the 2025 local government elections approaching, he claimed that the threats against him had intensified, raising concerns about his safety and political participation.

He has called on the Federal Government, security agencies, human rights organizations, and the international community to intervene and ensure his protection.

“I refuse to be silenced by intimidation. I only want to contribute to my country in an environment where democracy, justice, and freedom of speech prevail,” Akinbola declared, urging authorities to take swift action against those responsible.
