The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has likened Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, to a “prodigal son” during his speech at the groundbreaking ceremony of the Abia International Airport.
Keyamo referenced Otti’s political journey, noting his move from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Labour Party, where he won the 2023 governorship election.
“Today is not the day for politics. He strayed away; he was with us and strayed away like the prodigal son,” Keyamo said, drawing laughter from the audience.
The minister highlighted President Bola Tinubu’s support for the project, citing his admiration for Governor Otti’s leadership and commitment to the state.
Keyamo also detailed how the airport’s original airstrip plan evolved into an international airport through a partnership between the federal and state governments.
“When I called Dr. Alex Otti to share the news, he said, ‘No, I will partner with you. Let’s upgrade it to an international airport.’ This collaboration made today possible,” Keyamo added.
The Abia International Airport is expected to bolster economic activities in the region and enhance Nigeria’s aviation infrastructure.
