The Kano State Government has strongly criticized a recent statement by Alhaji Usman Alhaji, leader of the APC Patriotic Volunteers, regarding plans to establish a shadow government in the state.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, the government described the move as illegal, unconstitutional, and a potential threat to Kano’s peace and Nigeria’s democratic framework.
“The idea of forming a government within a government is not only unconstitutional but also a reckless attempt to destabilize Kano State,” the statement read.
The commissioner emphasized that Nigeria operates a presidential system of government, which does not recognize the concept of a shadow government, unlike the parliamentary model practiced in the United Kingdom. He warned that such actions could have severe social and legal repercussions.
The government accused the APC of resorting to desperate tactics to remain relevant after its defeat in the last election. It stressed that the elected administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf remains firmly committed to delivering good governance and has prioritized critical sectors such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, youth empowerment, and poverty alleviation.
Governor Yusuf’s administration, the statement noted, has recorded notable achievements, including the highest budgetary allocation to education nationwide, significant investments in healthcare and infrastructure, and ongoing institutional reforms to enhance transparency and accountability.
The government concluded with a stern warning against any attempts to incite unrest or disrupt the state’s peace.
“We will take firm action, in accordance with the law, against any individual or group attempting to undermine the democratic process,” the statement added.
Security agencies have been placed on alert to monitor activities that could jeopardize the state’s stability as the government continues its developmental agenda.
