A prominent Kano-based politician and All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Alhaji Abdulmajid Dan Bilki Commander, has cautioned the party against disregarding the warning issued by the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, over his potential exit from the party and resignation from his ministerial role.
Dan Bilki emphasized that the APC cannot afford to lose a leader of Ata’s stature, arguing that it would be more beneficial to part ways with 100 party members of Kano APC Chairman Abdullahi Abbas’s standing than to lose the minister.
Speaking to Repoter, he urged the party leadership to replace Abbas, warning that any attempt to extend his tenure would lead to further setbacks for the APC in Kano.
“We have been instrumental in APC’s survival as a political force in Nigeria, and every serious politician in Kano knows that Abdullahi Abbas has been a burden on the party,” he stated. “If APC truly wants to regain its lost strength, Abbas should step aside. The party must also take Minister Ata’s warning seriously—it is far more damaging to lose someone of his political caliber than 100 figures like Abbas.”
Dan Bilki also questioned Ata’s appointment as a minister, arguing that he is not a core APC member.
